An American Airlines passenger was restrained with duct tape during flight. American Airlines Flight 618 was flying from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Newark (EWR) on September 3 when a passenger disturbance broke out onboard the Boeing 737-800. The crew diverted the flight to Baltimore/Washington (BWI).

Witnesses said the passenger became verbally abusive with derogatory remarks, racial slurs, and vulgar language to crew and passengers before the situation turned physical.

Other passengers stepped in to help restrain him, using zip ties and duct tape to secure him to his seat until the aircraft landed.

Flight 618 landed safely at BWI around 10:15 p.m., where law enforcement boarded the aircraft and removed the passenger.

The flight later continued to Newark, while the FAA and FBI began investigations into the incident.
